Wedding Planner Denmark

Plan your wedding in denmark

More often than not, planning a wedding can feel overwhelming, even more so if you’re considering getting married abroad.. Different laws, unfamiliar languages, and paperwork requirements can make what should be a joyful process feel anything but.

That’s exactly why many couples decide to get help. Navigating the legal side of things in another country isn’t always straightforward, and it’s easy to run into complications if you’re not sure what’s required. If you’ve been doing your homework and have come across Denmark as an option, we have great news for you. You’re in the right place. Denmark has become one of the most popular destinations for international couples looking for a smooth, romantic, and legally recognized wedding. And if you choose to work with a wedding agency like ours, we can take care of the entire process for you  from paperwork to saying “I do.”

In this guide, we’ll show you how the entire process with Wedding Planner Denmark will be if you decide to hire us to help you get married in Denmark.

1. Research, research, research

Before you start thinking about venues or outfits, the first and most important step is to do your research. Choosing to get married abroad is a big decision, and it’s worth taking the time to understand what’s involved. The more informed you are, the more confident and relaxed you’ll feel moving forward.

If you’ve found your way here, there’s a good chance you’ve already spent time looking into your options. And if Denmark has caught your attention, you’re definitely not alone. Every year, thousands of international couples choose to get married here, not only because it’s a beautiful and welcoming country, but because the process is refreshingly straightforward.

There are no residency requirements, the paperwork is relatively simple, and applications are processed quickly. Most couples receive approval within few weeks. On top of that, the Danish marriage certificate is internationally recognized, and ceremonies can be conducted in English or German, which makes the experience both legally valid and personally meaningful.

At this stage, many couples choose to reach out for professional help. You don’t have to use a wedding agency, but the legal process can be complex, especially if you’re dealing with different languages or coming from countries with strict requirements. If you’re unsure about how to prepare your documents or just want peace of mind, we’re here to guide you. Wedding Planner Denmark takes care of the communication with the authorities, review every detail of your paperwork, and make sure nothing is left to chance.

If you’re already feeling a little overwhelmed, know that you don’t have to do this alone. When you’re ready, we’re ready to make your dream of getting married come to life.

2. Let us know your situation

If you have already contacted us with the intention of getting married in Denmark, you have probably filled out some initial questions about your circumstances. These typically include when you hope to get married, where you and your partner are from, where you currently live, whether you live together or apart, if you have children, and any other details that might be relevant to your case.

This information helps us understand your situation clearly from the beginning so we can guide you in the best possible way. Every couple is unique, and so is every case. What works for one couple may not apply to another. That is why we take the time to tailor the process to your specific needs.

If you have used our Free Document Service, we have likely already sent you an overview of the main documents required for your application. For many couples, this list is all they need. But depending on your nationality, residence, or past marital history, there may be additional documents required. We are always here to clarify these details and help you gather exactly what is necessary.

It is also important to mention that if something in your life has changed, such as a new residence, a divorce, or a name change, it can affect the documents we need to submit on your behalf. That is why it is important that we stay in close contact and keep everything updated as we move forward.

Our goal is always to make the process as smooth as possible. The more we understand your situation, the more we can do to help you avoid delays and ensure your application is complete and correct from the beginning.

Once your documents are ready, you will be just a few steps away from getting your wedding date confirmed.

3. Choose your preferred service

Once we have a clear understanding of your situation and your documents are in place, the next step is to decide which service suits you best.

The right solution depends entirely on what kind of experience you are looking for. If you prefer to submit the application to the Danish authorities yourself but would like guidance along the way, we can support you by preparing your documents and helping you through the process. This is a great option for couples who feel comfortable handling the final steps themselves but still want expert support.

If you are hoping to get married quickly and with as little hassle as possible, our Express Service might be the right fit. In these cases, we handle the entire process from start to finish, including preparing and submitting your application and communicating directly with the authorities on your behalf.

We also offer more complete packages for those looking for a fully tailored experience. These can include everything from help with Apostille legalisation to hotel stays, a professional wedding photographer, and personalised planning of your ceremony. See, for example, our Hotel and Wedding service.

Each couple has different needs, and we are here to help you find the solution that matches your wishes and timeline. You can read more about the different packages and services we offer on our services page.

4. Go through your documents

Once you have chosen your preferred service, we will guide you through the next stage, which is preparing and checking all of your required documents before submission. At this point, we have also sent you a compehensive list of the specific documents you’ll need based on your situation and nationality. This is one of the most important steps in the process, as even small mistakes can lead to unnecessary delays.

Every couple is different, so the documents we request will always be tailored to your case. We will walk you through exactly how to prepare them and we’ll go through all the documents so that we are certain that no mistakes are made and delays will happen.

Our role at this stage is to go through everything with a fine-toothed comb. If we find anything that could cause a problem — whether it is a missing page, an incorrect date, or an unclear scan, we will work with you to correct it before it reaches the authorities. This careful review gives you the best possible chance of having your application approved quickly and without complications.

As we’ve assisted hundreds of couples with getting married in Denmark, we know exactly what The Agency of Family Law looks for and what can cause the submission to get rejected. By getting it right the first time, you can avoid the risk of your application being put on hold while additional information is requested.

Once everything is in perfect order, we will be ready to submit your application and move on to securing your wedding date. This is the point where all the preparation pays off and you can start to focus on the exciting part.

6. Getting the green light

One of the reasons many couples choose Denmark for their wedding is the relatively quick approval process. In most cases, The Danish Agency of Family Law responds within five working days. If your documents have been prepared and submitted correctly, you may receive your approval within that timeframe.

However, it is important to remember that this is not guaranteed. The authorities may request additional information or clarification before they can finalise your approval, which can extend the timeline. While five days is possible, it is safer to allow more time in your planning so you are not relying on the fastest possible outcome.

If documents are incomplete or incorrect, the process can take much longer, and in most cases several months. This is why it’s so important that you get the application right in the first go. This is one of the reasons why it is so valuable to work with a wedding agency like Wedding Planner Denmark that knows the requirements, understands the review process, and has experience communicating with the Agency of Family Law. With expert guidance, the chances of delays are significantly reduced, and your approval can often be secured much sooner.

Once you have received your approval, we’ll either contact or help you contact your preferred town hall for your wedding.

7. Contact preferred town hall

Once your application has been approved, the next step is to contact the town hall where you would like to be married and book your ceremony. This is when your plans start to take shape, as you choose the exact place and time for your wedding.

If you already have a specific location in mind, it is important to make contact as soon as possible. Many Danish town halls are very popular, particularly with international couples, and available dates can be booked well in advance.

If you are hoping to get married quickly, it is important to remain open-minded and flexible. Being willing to consider different locations or alternative dates will increase your chances of securing a ceremony in the near future. Some couples decide based on the earliest available date, while others prefer to wait until their preferred location can accommodate them.

At Wedding Planner Denmark we can either contact the town hall directly on your behalf or assist you with making the booking yourself, depending on your chosen package. This will also give you the best chance of securing a date that works for you. We can help you get married at Copenhagen City Hall and other town halls across Denmark.

At this point, your plans finally begin to take shape.

8. Final preparations for your wedding

With your ceremony date confirmed, it is time to focus on the final details before your wedding day. This is where everything comes together, and you can start to imagine exactly how your day will unfold.

As we mentioned earlier, we offer a range of packages that can include much more than just the legal process. Depending on the option you have chosen, we can help you arrange accommodation close to your wedding location, book a professional wedding photographer to capture every moment, and organise other important elements that will make your day as memorable as possible. This is also the time to arrange your travel. Many couples book their flights as soon as the date is confirmed, while those living closer sometimes choose to drive to Denmark by car.

Some couples prefer to keep things simple, while others want to add extra touches to make the occasion feel truly special. Some couples prefer to plan everything else by themselves. Whatever you prefer, this is the time to do it. Whether that means finding a beautiful hotel for your stay, arranging flowers, or planning a small celebration after the ceremony, we are here to make sure it all runs smoothly.

These last preparations are often the most exciting part of the journey, as there is no more stressful bureaucratic stuff you’ll have to focus on. Now you can put your own personal flair on your wedding and your stay in Denmark. If you don’t live in Denmark, you’ll have to book your flight tickets or

9. Attend the ceremony

The day has finally arrived, and you are in Denmark, ready to be married at your chosen town hall. Depending on the location, you may need to present your documents the day before your ceremony or on the same day. This usually includes your passport, visa or residence permit, and in some cases proof of your travel into and out of Denmark.

The ceremony itself is short and simple. The registrar will say a few words before inviting you to sign the marriage documents together with your witnesses. You are welcome to bring your own witnesses if you wish, but most town halls can provide them if needed. This will all be arranged when you book your ceremony, so there is no need to worry about it on the day.

How you choose to celebrate the moment is entirely up to you. Some couples exchange vows and rings, just as in a traditional wedding, while others keep it minimal and let the simplicity speak for itself. Whatever you decide, this is your moment to make your marriage in Denmark truly personal and memorable.

What to do afterwards?

Once the ceremony is over and the documents are signed, you and your partner will receive a copy of your marriage certificate. In most cases, you can take it home with you immediately. You have now been married in Denmark.

If you need your marriage to be formally recognised in your home country, you may also require an Apostille. This is an official certification that confirms the authenticity of your marriage certificate for use abroad. It is important to arrange this before you leave Denmark to avoid any complications later.

We can help you obtain the Apostille quickly and efficiently as part of our apostille service, ensuring that your marriage is recognised without problems when you return home. You can read more about what an Apostille is here and find details about our Apostille Service here.

With your marriage certificate in hand and the legalities taken care of, all that remains is to celebrate the beginning of your new chapter together.
